Cashmere Longies

June has been getting some abrasions on her thighs from one brand of diaper covers we use (Sweet Pea).  I’ve emailed with the company and have been to the pediatrician a couple of times and alas, we just can’t use these covers.  It’s likely the combination of the way this style fits and Juney’s delicious thighs.

Luckily, I work with one of the most crafty women alive who also cloth diapers.  She is a whiz with all sorts of baby projects ….diaper covers, snack holders, reusable sandwich bags…she’s got it all! (I can’t wait for her to open her Etsy store – I could give that girl some business!)  We were discussing wool “longies.”  (For those not on the cloth diaper scene, check them out here.)  As you can tell they are quite adorable.  My friend has started making these out of recycled wool sweaters.  We’ve been gathering old wool sweaters from co-workers, and we’re on a mission to scout Goodwill for cashmere sweaters (who wouldn’t want cashmere pants?!?).  I was disappointed that we cleaned out our closets last spring because I had a couple of sweaters that would have been adorable on June.

They end up looking so cute because often the legs of the pants are the sleeves from the sweater.  Lauri made us two pair of longies, one brown wool and an orange pair in cashmere!  Lauri can also use the diaper covers we can no longer use – great trade!  I had to lanolize them first so the were repellent – that’s the beauty, no diaper cover needed!  We just use the prefold diaper underneath the pants – breathable, natural fiber, and cute!  Our longie model wore these beautiful cashmere, very chic, pants today.

The daycare teacher loved them this morning, so we’ll see how they go!
Thanks Lauri – YOU ROCK!!
