Hi all-
As you guessed by the previous post, there are some changes coming!
JUNE
June was on the waitlist for an ECE (early childhood education/preschool) program in Denver at the Denver Green School. It’s an innovation school in Denver Public Schools. It’s a pretty unique school and one that Geoff and I really liked when we toured and visited.
The school choice process here is not easily navigable nor well managed. We had tried to choose into an ECE program year for her, with the idea that it will give her preference for kindergarten. We were told in the spring that she was wait-listed, and we decided we’d stay at the Montessori. Last week we got a call that she got in and we had 24 hours to decide and needed to register her by 1:00PM the next day…and school starts next week. Fun times! It was a rough few days, but knew June was ready (even if mama wasn’t!). The teacher is very familiar with the Montessori philosophy and knows well how to support kiddos that have had that as their background. She is a Reggio Emilia trained teacher and aligns well with what we value and has great parallels to Montessori. (Aunt E. that was for you! :))
Her teacher has a blog to share with parents and family – so you’ll be able to see what June is up to and see more pictures: http://dgsece.weebly.com/
At first we were trying to scramble to figure out how to not have to do 2 drop-offs and 2 pick-ups so far away and get Mabel into a different daycare, but it was too much. So we’re trying to figure out some help in the meantime and we’ll see how it goes!
It’s been a pretty emotional transition for me, but June is over the moon excited! Her teachers at her school and I all cried together one morning. June is an institution there, having been one of the original kiddos and has known most of them since she was 12 weeks old.
Tomorrow is her first day (only a half-day for the first day) and next week she’ll be full-time. They have longer days, and then half-day every Friday. We’re excited for her, and can’t wait to see how it all goes!
MABEL
It will be a transition for Mabel too. She loves, loves, loves having her big sister with her at school and always is looking for her. She is exploding with words and really can’t stop talking. She also speaks a fair amount of Spanish and likely is telling things to Geoff and I that we have no idea what’s going on.
She is entering the phase of wanting to do everything herself, “I try it!” and making sure that we are not helping until she’s beyond frustrated. She also knows more lyrics to songs than Geoff and sings all the time. Nothing makes me prouder to watch her walk into every room like she owns it.
That’s all for now…time to figure out which school supplies we still don’t have an how to buy her school lunch online!
Love,
Beth
