Good Parents

-sorry for the double post; Geoff was still editing and against my sarcasm-

Dear Family, Friends and Fans,

With Juney’s first birthday approaching , Geoff and I have been reflecting on our year as new parents.  I think the one thing June will not question is how much we love her – our only real goal for the year.  Although embarrassing ourselves and Juney weren’t in the goals, we found that we are naturals at these things. There have been some great incidents over the course of this first year that will certainly won’t win us “good parent” awards.  If we were putting together a dossier of our not-so-great work, these would be our top 5 incidents to note:
1. Allowing Time to Cry
There have been a couple times, when June has been losing her cookies where we may have snapped a few photos…and/or made the same face as her for the camera (sorry Juney):
Very mad when we were stuck in traffic in Minneapolis
Many more here and a few here.
2. Some Ridiculous Outfits (self explanatory):
Others found here and here.  There are arguably many more throughout this blog, and more yet to come – wait until this Halloween.

3. Falling off the Couch
Yes.  It was bound to happen.  And if you look closely this post, you can see that most of the photos were with our Derby hats, however if you look at our original Derby Party Post, you can see June posing on the couch with her headband.  Then notice we jump right to pictures at the party (no more at home).  If you look closely, you will notice a red bump right between her eyes.  Not long after the initial photo soot on the couch, Juney took a header off the couch and onto the toy basket and onto the floor.  I got upset, then realized it will likely be the first of many spills… and sweet pictures documenting it.  I actually asked Geoff it would be inappropriate to put some make up on her to cover it up. (Sorry stage mom, make up doesn’t cover up guilt.)
4. Party Hat Snap
We were recently at a friend’s one-year birthday party and had a great time.  The party was great with lots of kiddos and delicious cake.  Everybody got party hats, shown here:
You don’t see what happened about 4 minutes later. June grabbed the hat string and was pulling it so hard to take off the hat, but couldn’t figure it out so just let go of the elastic. Yes.  It snapped her right on the side of the face.  I laughed (of course she was okay) and so did Geoff. I held her while she cried, still smiling and giggling (without her seeing).  Geoff laughed more too, but folks at the party were not quite as amused.  Another notch in our “Good Parents” belt.
5. School Picture Hysterics
June’s day care recently had picture day.  We didn’t know it was that day because we just got back from vacation.  Juney was off her game and wasn’t exactly “ready” for the occasion.  When I got to school to pick her up, they laid out an entire spread, including one gigantic almost poster size available for purchase.  I took one look at the photo and just busted out laughing. (Every mother’s reaction.)  I could barely breathe, I was laughing so hard and the picture lady kept saying, “oh, she looks so adorable!”  All I could see was how ticked she was and envisioned her saying, “why are you even wasting my time taking this photo.”  I had tears coming down my cheeks by the time I left.
Of course every set of photos costs something, so I bought the cheapest sheet of photos just so I could take it home to show Geoff.  He had the same reaction.  To top off our fun, we got a free school tote bag with this picture on it.  The bag is even better.  I can’t wait to bust these out when she’s 17.
We’ve had lots, lots and lots more smiles and laughs – especially the ones that just appear the second June smiles at us.  We’ll talk about those more in her one-year post, for now we wanted to focus on us, and our parenting follies.

Lily looks like someone had just bossed her around. “I don't think you're going to like the way I handle the rest of the afternoon,” she thought as she plotted her strategy for today's finger painting activity.
You have a treasure trove of pics for her senior shrine for graduation open house! So nice to know that June is not the only one enjoying her first year.
    Love, Aunt E.

Perfect Aunt E.! Thanks for the comments, we definitely have a lot gathered. There is a program that will convert the blog into a book, so hopefully that will be relatively easy and I can create one as a keepsake for her, for us, and perhaps for some grandparent gifts… 🙂
